Equipment
Bowl
Cast iron skillet or ungreased cookie sheet
Cheese grater or knife
Biscuit or pastry cutter (can use cup)
Sifter (optional)
Ingredients
1CupMilk
2¼CupsAll purpose flour
8tbspButter
1tspSalt
4 tspBaking powder
Instructions
Preheat oven. In a large mixing bowl combine the flour (I like to sift my flour but that is optional), salt, and baking powder. Mix thoroughly.
Using a cheese grater, grate the cold butter and add to the dry ingredients in the bowl. If you do not have a cheese grater use a knife to cut the butter into small chunks.
Add the milk to the mixture of other ingredients and begin mixing. I like to use my hands for this part to thoroughly combine the mixture.
Once thoroughly mixed, turn the dough onto a pastry table or lightly floured surface and roll out the dough about an inch thick. I use my hands but you can use a rolling pin if preferred. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a cup with straight edges.
Place cut out biscuits in a cast iron skillet or on a baking sheet and bake for 15 - 20 minutes at 425°F. Whatever you bake the biscuits on needs to have a tall edge because due to the butter content some of the butter will melt out of the biscuits during the baking process.
