What is Zote Soap?
Zote soap is a laundry soap that comes in the form of bar soap or pre-shredded soap flakes. It is intended to be used for handwashing laundry and treating stains.
Ingredients of zote soap are as follows: sodium tallowate (animal fat), sodium cocoate, Citronella oil (fragrance), glycerin and optical brightener.
Equipment
- 2 gallon container
- Measuring cup
- Stainless steel spoon
- Cheese grater
- Bowl
Materials
- 2 cups of Borax
- 2 cups of Super Washing Soda
- 50 – 60 drops of essential oil
- 14oz Zote bar
- 2 gallons of hot water
How to make DIY laundry soap
Step 1: Shred the entire 14 oz Zote bar into your bowl.
Step 2: Next fill your 2 gallon container 3/4 of the way with hot tap water. (As hot as it can get.)
Step 3: Then pour the shredded Zote bar into the 2 gallon container of hot water. Stir occasionally until all the Zote bar is dissolved.
Step 4: Once the Zote bar is dissolved add 50 – 60 drops of an essential oil of your choice. Mix thoroughly.
Step 5: Next measure out 2 cups of borax and 2 cups of super washing soda. Add all four cups to the same bowl the shredded Zote bar was in.
Step 6: Dump the mixture of borax and super washing soda into the 2 gallon container of hot water. The mixture will begin to thicken so you will need to mix quickly and thoroughly to fully incorporate the ingredients.
Step 7: Once all ingredients are incorporated it is ready to use. The more the mixture cools it will continue to thicken.
How do you use Zote laundry soap?
This laundry detergent is highly concentrated so it doesn’t take much at all. For a small or regular size load use one tablespoon of detergent. For a large load use 2 tablespoons. If you have heavily soiled clothes use 2 – 4 tablespoons depending on how bad they are.
